District Clerk

The office of the District Clerk is established by Article 5, Section 9 of the Texas Constitution. The District Clerk is the office of record for all proceedings heard in District Courts, and in Houston County, some civil and family matters heard in County Courts at Law. This includes the most serious personal injury, contract, real estate, and consumer lawsuits; all divorces, child support and custody cases; as well as tax collection cases.

Records of felony cases are kept in the District Clerk’s office.

Deputies of the District Clerk carry out the decision of the courts by issuing writs, abstracts of judgment, preparation of warrants or commitment of documents in criminal matters.

Jury Duty

The jury clerk receives a list of random names compiled by the Secretary of State and provided to the clerk of Houston County. The names consist of Houston county registered voters and names provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The Jury Clerk duty is to pull a jury for District Courts, County Court at Law, and, the Justice of the Peace Courts in Houston County when ask upon. The clerk keeps the jury wheel updated with the juror’s current information.

Jury reporting updates are on our Facebook page (Facebook.com/HoustonCountyDistrictClerk), automated telephone system (ext. 235), and a jury cancellation sign posted on the ground floor entrance door.

All jurors who want to claim an exemption, ask for a postponement, or have any additional questions or requests please call 936-544-3255 ext. 228 or email the District Clerk’s office at Districtclerk@co.houston.tx.us.
